Past Mission Projects
Youth Group VBS Mission in Hawaii
With the purpose of working and having fun, they went to help conduct a Vacation Bible School at the church where one of LCoP's former members is now Youth Minister.
Corazon de Esperanza
Heart of Hope for orphans, at-risk youth and women in Peru
We supported Lexi in her efforts to go to Peru in June 2012 to work at an orphange and a transitional home for youth who have aged out of the orphanage system. She has inspired other members of LCoP to go there in Summer 2013.
Relay for Life
Praying for a Cure
We sponsored a team to represent LCoP in the Relay for Life campaign to raise funds to help find a cure to cancer.
Drought in East Africa
In Fall 2011, our mission emphasis was to help the people in East Africa who are suffering from a severe drought.
Bakersfield Pregnancy Center
Offering alternative choices to abortions, the Bakersfield Pregnancy Center helps women who are in need. LCoP annually raises funds for the Center through a Baby Bottle campaign. Several of our members volunteer at the Center; some have worked at the Center in various jobs.
Living Water International
Providing a Cup of Water in Jesus' Name
At least 880 million people in the world do not have access to safe water; this is roughly one in eight of the world's population. (WHO-UNICEF) 1.8 million children die every year as a result of diseases caused by unclean water and poor sanitation. This amounts to around 5000 deaths a day. (UNDP) Living Water International conducts projects to provide safe water and hygiene education to poor, rural villages around the world.
In Fall 2010, members and friends of LCoP raised funds for Living Water International which were used to construct a water well for a rural, poor village in the mountains of Peru.
Operation Christmas Child
Beginning in October each year, we start a campaign to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Post Tsunami Assistance
Banda Aceh, Indonesia
In the summer of 2006, LCoP sent a team to Indonesia to assist in the ongoing recovery from the December 2004 tsunami. Banda Aceh (pronouced Ah-Chay) was the community most affected by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami, losing over 100,000 people from their community alone. Our team joined with the onsite LCMS mission to assist in helping teach English in this once isolated province which had also suffered from 30 years of civil war.
Lutheran Bible Translators
There are more than 6900 different languages spoken in the world. More than 4500 of these languages have no portion of Scripture translated. More than 350 million people around the world do not have access to God's Word in their heart language . . their mother tongue. Lutheran Bible Translators (LBT) is an independent Lutheran mission organization dedicated to helping bring people to faith in Jesus Christ. They strive to do this through their missionaries and staff, who work to make the Word of God available to those who do not yet have it in the language of their hearts. LCoP members are actively supporting the following LBT missionaries; click on their name to access a website with photos, information, blogs, newsletter, etc.:
