Connect: Daily Devotions

This is a series of daily devotions that will be made available here and also sent out via the email prayer chain. They will be based on the Scripture readings of the previous Sunday, with the exception of Monday which will be devoted to Sunday’s “Prayer of the Day” which is somehow thematic for the readings that follow.

We are receiving them from a fellow pastor who is producing them each week in light of our current coronavirus crisis and is offering them for others to share. They will be lightly edited for our circumstances and shared with you for our mutual edification. As they become available the links (below) will become active allowing you to download.

Connect: Get Involved

There are many ways for you to get involved at Lutheran Church of Prayer, from weekly Bible studies to musical groups to helping at our own Wonder Window Children's Center. During this difficult time of pandemic, some of these groups are still gathering while others are not. See below for some possibilities or check out our calendar and current newsletter but please contact us for the most up-to-date schedule.

  • Small Groups

One of the best ways to find a sense of belonging in a church is to join a small group. At Lutheran Church of Prayer we have many groups to choose from: weekly home Bible study small groups, weekly Men's Group at Tony's Fireside Pizza, and more!

  • Musical groups

Lutheran Church of Prayer is blessed to have a variety of talented musical groups and individuals:
    • Our Vocal Choir rehearses Wednesday nights at 7:00pm. All are welcome to join!
    • Our Handbell Choir rehearses Monday nights at 7:00pm and performs one Sunday per month.
    • The Fourth Sunday Band offers a mix of contemporary and folk music featuring vocals, guitars and bass; they rehearse Thursday nights at 6:00pm.
  • Bible studies

In addition to home Bible study groups we offer Children, Youth, and Adult Bible studies on Sunday morning at 10:30 as well as a Women's Bible study 10:00am Tuesday mornings at Church.

  • Service Projects

We are blessed to know how God has reached out to us and served us in Jesus Christ, and we in turn are happy to reach out to others in the same spirit. Whether as a small group or as the whole church we participate in service projects both locally and internationally.

Connect: Events

Annual events provide opportunities for us to engage with our NE Bakersfield neighbors and beyond. Here is a sample of some of our favorites!

Connect: Missions

It's simple, really. "Missions" is just another way of saying people are helping people. Specifically, we at Lutheran church of Prayer want to reach out to help people in practical ways, like gathering food for a homeless shelter, or supporting a missionary family in Papua New Guinea, or sending gift boxes to children around the world through Operation Christmas Child, or getting involved in reaching out to the families at our very own Children's Center. Through these efforts we introduce people to the love we know in Christ.
